Green Mountain Window offers a range of glass options designed to enhance both the aesthetics and performance of their exterior doors. These options focus on providing clarity, energy efficiency, and durability.
Standard features often include double-pane insulated glass units, which are a cornerstone of energy-efficient window and door construction. These units consist of two panes of glass separated by a spacer, creating an insulating gas-filled space that significantly reduces heat transfer. This helps maintain comfortable indoor temperatures year-round and can contribute to lower energy bills.
For improved thermal performance, Green Mountain Window doors are equipped with Low-E (Low-Emissivity) coatings. Low-E coatings are microscopically thin, transparent layers applied to the glass surface. These coatings are designed to reflect infrared light (heat), keeping heat inside during colder months and outside during warmer months. This technology is crucial for maximizing energy savings and comfort.
To further enhance insulation and prevent condensation, the space between the glass panes is typically filled with an inert gas, such as Argon or Krypton. These gases are denser than air and provide a better thermal barrier, further reducing heat transfer and improving the overall R-value of the glass unit.
In terms of safety and durability, tempered glass is often an available option. Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that has been treated with heat or chemicals to increase its strength compared with normal glass. When broken, it shatters into small, relatively harmless granular chunks rather than shards. This makes it a suitable choice for areas where safety is a concern.
Laminated glass is another option that provides enhanced security and sound dampening. It consists of two or more panes of glass bonded together with an interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB). If the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the fragments together, preventing them from scattering and making it more difficult to penetrate. This also helps in reducing noise transmission.
